Spain suffered to Morocco in their last game of the Group stage, Portugal tied the game against Iran, and Uruguay had no problems to beat Russia.

The match between Spain and Morocco gave some problems to the 2010 World champions. 'La Roja' was in disadvantage twice during the game thanks to a bad defense job. In spite of that, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) helped them to tie the game and get their ticket to the next round as the leaders of their Group.

In the other duel, Portugal faced Iran in what seemed to be an easy game, but it wasn't. Ricardo Quaresma opened the score with a terrific goal and, when Cristiano Ronaldo had the opportunity to make the 2-0, Real Madrid's striker failed the penalty. Their rivals tied the game and at the end they were very close to obtain the victory and the chance to stay alive in this World Cup.

The best two teams of Group A entered the field in order to seek the first place. Uruguay had no problems to defeat 3-0 Russia and then gain the three points left. They will face Portugal in the next round as the locals will play against Spain.

As Spain achieved to gain their ticket to the final 16 round, they also made it into the easiest bracket they could get. Russia is the next rival, but if they ended as second, they could have faced teams that, combined, have won 15 times de World Cup.

In the other match of Group A, Egypt and Saudi Arabia played for the honor. With both teams eliminated, they could only aspire to a victory in order to end the World Cup in the best way possible. Mo Salah could not get the three points and his rivals scored two goals in the second half in order to leave them at the bottom.
