Pat Patterson, primer luchador gay de la WWE, falleció de cáncer
Pat Patterson, quien es reconocido por ser el primer luchador abiertamente gay en la WWE y miembro del salón de la fama, falleció víctima del cáncer.
El mundo de la lucha libre se encuentra de luto. Este miércoles, Pat Patterson, el primer luchador abiertamente gay en la WWE y que también es miembro del Salón de la Fama desde 1996, falleció después de una larga dura lucha en contra del cáncer a los 79 años de edad.
A través de un comunicado, la empresa luchística se encargó de dar a conocer la noticia, despidiendo a un ícono de la WWE. La empresa se encargó de mandar condolencias a su familia y amigos en su página oficial.

Fueron muchas las contribuciones que realizó Pat Patterson a la WWE sin embargo, una de las más importantes fue la creación del primer match de Royal Rumble, mismo que llegó para quedarse y convertirse en uno de los eventos más importantes de la lucha libre.
"Le llevé la idea a Vince. Él se rió del concepto al principio, diciendo que una hora era demasiado tiempo para mantener a los fanáticos interesados. El primer Royal Rumble fue un éxito, pero hasta que terminó, realmente no sabíamos si funcionaría. Sabía que era una idea única, pero hasta que no viéramos la reacción de la multitud, era difícil saberlo con certeza" señala en su autobiografía.
Primer luchador abiertamente gay aceptado en la WWE
Patterson es considerado por muchos como una de las mentes maestras de la lucha libre profesional de Estados Unidos e incluso después de su retiro fue la mano derecha de Vince McMahon.
Además, fue uno de los primeros miembros abiertamente homosexuales dentro de la industria de la lucha libre, pero lo mantuvo en secreto para el público que lo veía hasta mucho después de su carrera en el ring. Fue hasta después de su retiro cuando lo hizo público.
