Matías Almeyda and his technical staff have been planning the work logistics and training of San Jose Earthquakes for several weeks. And in regards to this weekend, the team had a double session scheduled for Sunday, February 3, which coincides with Super Bowl LIII.

Players of the "Quakes" had in mind to watch the game between Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots, to take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, but the game would interfere with their pre-season Sunday practice in Cancun.

Faced with this scenario, members such as Chris Wondolowski and Shea Salinas decided to talk to Almeyda to land the issue and get permission for the entire team to watch the Super Bowl LIII.

Negotiations

Shea Salinas spoke to ESPN and stated that "Matías Almeyda was going to give us Saturday off, I do not think he even knew that the Super Bowl is Sunday, some of us said, 'Hey, Sunday would be good to watch the Super Bowl. ' We had to explain it to him, so he gave us Sunday off, we'll probably have to work harder on Saturday and Monday. I think we're going to reserve a room here and see it as a team and hopefully, we'll show you how great the Super Bowl is."

Almeyda, who in Chivas always tried to "click" with the players, understood them and agreed to the request of their players so that everyone can watch the Super Bowl.

"Yes, we will watch it I do not understand it very much, I like the movements, I like passion, but the game itself I don't understand too much, I concentrate on the mobility and the blocks they make and the precision in the final pass. There are many things to take from the game," said Almeyda.

Start of season

The 2019 campaign of the MLS begins next March; Matías Almeyda and San Jose Earthquakes debut on day 2 when they receive the Montreal Impact at the Avaya Stadium.
