The list of Americans that have tried it in the Premier League

From Brad Friedel and Clint Dempsey to Donovan and Michael Bradley. Americans that have tried and often failed in the Premier League as Christian Pulisic becomes latest US arrival.

Christian Pulisic is set to become the 45th US player to feature in the Premier League after his $73.1 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea.

As the talented 20-year old midfielder will lineup for the 'Blues' next summer, he joins a list of Americans that have played in England's top league.

Brad Friedel

The goalkeeper spent 18 years at the Premier League with Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur. From 1997 until his retirement in 2015 he made 450 league appearances, more than any of his other countrymen.

Tim Howard

He came short from fellow countrymen and goalkeeper Brad Friedel with 399 games in the Premier League from 2003 to 2016 where he played for Manchester United and Everton.

Clint Dempsey

Dempsey played for Fulham where he made a name for himself before landing with the Tottenham Hotspur in 2012-2013. The striker returned to Craven Cottage making it to 218 outings and 57 goals.

Geoff Cameron

Cameron enjoyed six seasons in the Premier League with Stoke City before their relegation last May getting a total of 168 appearances.

Brad Guzan

This American keeper played 154 matches for Aston Villa and Middlesbrough before going back to the States with MLS champions Atlanta United.

Brian McBride

Fullham bought his rights from MLS for $1.5 million and was Fulham's top scorer during the 2006-07 season. McBride has a total 148 appearances between Fullham and Everton scoring a total of 37 goals.

Jonathan Spector

With 124 appearances Spector spent his Premier League time between Manchester United and West Ham United. But he spent a lot of time out the field due to injuries. He scored his first Premier League goal against Everton.

Carlos Bocanegra

Bocanegra quickly became a fan favorite known as the Jackal and the Black Snake. During the 2006-07 season, he was Fulham's second leading scorer with 5 goals, and by the time he was released, he had 116 outings.

Landon Donovan

Donovan joined Everton on loan in January 2010 where he played in 13 matches and scored 2 goals. The striker returned to the U.S in time for the 2010 MLS. He spent another two months with Everton in January 2012 earning him a total of 17 appearances.

Michael Bradley

Though he was a big name in the US, he only played a total of three games during his loan at Aston Villa. It was said that Bradley would not join the team on a permanent basis after Alex McLeish declined to extend his contract.
